ziprasidone /zipra′sidōn/ , an antipsychotic medication administered orally as the hydrochloride salt. ▪ INDICATIONS: The drug is used in the treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis treated with antipsychotic drugs are at an increased risk of death. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Serious adverse effects include dizziness, fainting, tachycardia, fever, stiff muscles, confusion, and diaphoresis.
