Zeeman effect

Zeeman effect /sē″man, tsā″mon/ [Pieter Zeeman, Dutch physicist and Nobel laureate, 1865–1945] , a splitting of lines in an emission spectrum into three or more symmetrically placed lines when the radiation source is in a magnetic field. An important application in health care is magnetic resonance imaging.
