ventriculocisternostomy /-sis′tərnos″təmē/ [L, ventriculus + cisterna, vessel; Gk, stoma, mouth] , a surgical procedure performed to treat hydrocephalus. An opening is created that allows cerebrospinal fluid to drain through a shunt from the ventricles of the brain into the cisterna magna. Also called Torkildsen’s procedure, ventriculostomy.
