umbilicus /umbilī″kəs, umbil″ikəs/ [L, navel] , the point on the abdomen at which the umbilical cord joined the fetal abdomen. In most adults it is marked by a depression; in some, it is marked by a small protrusion of skin. It interrupts the linea alba about halfway between the infrasternal notch and the pubic symphysis.
