ulnar nerve, one of the terminal branches of the brachial plexus that arises on each side from the medial cord of the plexus. It receives fibers from both cervical and thoracic nerve roots and supplies the muscles and skin on the ulnar side of the forearm and the hand. It can be easily palpated as the “funny bone” of the elbow as it courses along the groove between the olecranon process and the medial epicondyle of the humerus. Compare median nerve, musculocutaneous nerve, radial nerve.
