trichlormethiazide /trī′klôrməthī″əzīd/ , a thiazide diuretic. The prototype is hydrochlorothiazide. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of hypertension and edema. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Anuria or known hypersensitivity to this drug, to thiazide medications, or to sulfonamide derivatives prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are hypokalemia, hyperglycemia, hyperuricemia, and various hypersensitivity reactions.
