Toxocara /tok′səker″ə/ , a genus of ascarid nematodes. T. canis affects mainly dogs. T. mystax affects cats but may also infect humans, particularly children, causing intestinal and respiratory symptoms and damage to the spleen and liver. See also toxocariasis.
