torulopsosis /tôr′yəlopsō″sis, tôr′yo͝olop″səsis/ [L, torulus, small swelling; Gk, opsis, appearance, osis, condition] , an infection with the yeast Torulopsis glabrata, a normal inhabitant of the oropharynx, GI tract, and skin. T. glabrata causes disease in severely debilitated patients, in those with impaired immune function, and sometimes in those having prolonged urinary catheterization. Systemic infection is usually treated with amphotericin B.
