torticollis

torticollis /tôr′tikol″is/ [L, tortus, twisted, collum, neck] , an abnormal condition in which the head is inclined to one side as a result of the contraction of muscles on that side of the neck. It may be congenital or acquired. Treatment may include surgery, heat, support, or immobilization, depending on the cause and severity of the condition. Also called wryneck. See also spasmodic torticollis.
