tobramycin sulfate /tō′brəmī″sin/ , an aminoglycoside antibiotic. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of external ocular infection, septicemia, and lower respiratory tract and central nervous system infections caused by gram-negative bacilli, including Pseudomonas. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Kidney dysfunction, use of potent diuretics, or known hypersensitivity to this or other aminoglycosides prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse reactions are ototoxicity and nephrotoxicity.
