tirofiban, an antiplatelet agent. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is used to treat acute coronary syndrome. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: The following factors prohibit its use: known hypersensitivity to this drug, active internal bleeding, stroke, major surgery, severe trauma, intracranial neoplasm, aneurysm, and hemorrhage. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Bleeding is a life-threatening effect of tirofiban. Other adverse reactions include bradycardia, dizziness, dissection, coronary artery edema, pain in the legs and/or pelvis, and sweating. Rash is a common side effect.
