tetrahydrozoline hydrochloride /-hīdroz″əlēn/ , an adrenergic vasoconstrictor. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed for the treatment of nasal and nasopharyngeal congestion and as an ophthalmic vasoconstrictor. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Glaucoma or known hypersensitivity to this drug or to other vasoconstrictors prohibits its use. It is used with caution in patients who have cardiovascular disease. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are irritation to mucosa, rebound nasal congestion, and effects associated with systemic absorption, including sedation, alterations in cardiovascular function, and hypertension.
