sulfADIAZINE /sul′fədī″əzēn/ , a sulfonamide antibacterial. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of infection, particularly of the urinary tract, and in rheumatic fever prophylaxis. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Porphyria, urinary tract obstruction, or known hypersensitivity to sulfonamides prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are crystalluria, photosensitivity, severe allergic reactions, and blood dyscrasias.
