subdural hematoma, an accumulation of blood in the subdural space, usually caused by an injury or fall. It can be acute with rapid bleeding or subacute with accumulation of blood over a longer period of time. Patients may have a chronic subdural hematoma that slowly occurs over an extended period of time, and some persons may have more than one bleed.
