streptokinase-streptodornase /-strep′tōdôr″nās/ , two enzymes derived from a strain of Streptococcus hemolyticus. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed for debridement of purulent exudates, clotted blood, radiation necrosis, or fibrinous deposits resulting from trauma or infection. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Active hemorrhage, acute cellulitis, or danger of reopening bronchopleural fistulas prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are pyrogenic reactions and irritation.
