split-brain state, a condition resulting from the disconnection of the two cerebral hemispheres. It is produced when the corpus callosum is surgically divided completely or partially as a treatment for epilepsy or in congenital absence of corpus callosum. The cognitive effects are identified as a disconnection syndrome.
