somatoform disorder

somatoform disorder /sōmat″əfôrm, sō″mətōfôrm′/ [Gk, soma + L, forma, form] , any of a group of disorders characterized by symptoms suggesting physical illness or disease for which there are no demonstrable organic causes or physiological dysfunctions. The symptoms are usually the physical manifestations of some unresolved intrapsychic factor or conflict. Kinds include conversion disorder, hypochondriasis, psychogenic pain disorder, somatization disorder.
