sensory reeducation

sensory reeducation, interventions designed to retrain sensory pathways following a neurologic event interfering with sensation. ▪ METHOD: Methods used include vibration, massage, and exercises for differentiating textures, such as locating the correct hidden object in a bowl containing multiple textures. All methods emphasize a variety of stimuli used in a repetitive manner to bombard the sensory receptors. ▪ OUTCOME CRITERIA: Successful reeducation results when the client with a nerve injury is able to meaningfully interpret the stimuli applied.
