schistosomicide /shis′təsō″məsīd/ [Gk, schistos + soma + L, caedere, to kill] , a drug destructive to schistosomes, blood flukes transmitted by snails to human hosts in many parts of Africa, Brazil, and Asia. Praziquantel, albendazole, niridazole, metrifonate, oxamniquine hycanthone hydrochloride, and various salts of antimony, including stibophen, are potent antischistosomal agents. −schistosomicidal, adj.
