rotating tourniquet

rotating tourniquet /rō″tāting/ [L, rotare, to rotate; Fr, tourniquet, garrote] , one of four constricting devices used in a rotating order to pool blood in the extremities. The purpose is to relieve congestion in the lungs in the treatment of acute pulmonary edema. Use of the rotating tourniquet has declined with the development of vasodilating drugs and diuretics.
