rickettsiosis /riket′sē·ō″sis/ pl. rickettsioses [Howard T. Ricketts; Gk, osis, condition] , any of a group of infectious diseases caused by microorganisms of the genus Rickettsia. Kinds of rickettsioses include a spotted fever group (boutonneuse fever, rickettsialpox, Rocky Mountain spotted fever), a typhus group (epidemic typhus, murine typhus, scrub typhus), and a miscellaneous group (Q fever, trench fever).
