retrognathia /ret′rōnā″thē·ə/ [L, retro, backward; Gk, gnathos, jaw] , a condition in which either or both jaws recede with respect to the frontal plane of the forehead. According to Angle’s classification of malocclusion, the facial profile of a person with a Class II malocclusion is retrognathic.
