random-access memory (RAM)

random-access memory (RAM) /ran″dəm/ , (in computer processing) the part of a computer’s memory available to execute programs and temporarily store data. It can usually be used for both reading and writing. RAM data is automatically erased when the computer is turned off unless the file has been saved. Compare read-only memory.
