radiopacity

radiopacity /-pas″itē/ [L, radiare, to emit rays, opacus, obscure] , the ability to stop or reduce the passage of x-rays. Bones have relative radiopacity and therefore display as white areas on an x-ray image. Lead has marked radiopacity and therefore is widely used to shield x-ray equipment and atomic power sources.
