radical neck dissection, dissection and removal of all lymph nodes and removable tissues under the skin of the neck, performed to prevent the spread of malignant tumors of the head and neck that have a reasonable chance of being controlled. Thorough mouth hygiene is given, and antibiotics are begun. A tracheostomy may be done.
