radiation therapist, a radiation technologist who administers radiation therapy services to patients and observes patients during treatment. Preparation includes completion of an accredited program in radiation therapy and a minimum of an associate’s degree; however, some jurisdictions require a bachelor’s degree. Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required by most employers in the United States. Duties may include tumor localization, dosimetry, patient follow-up, patient education, and record keeping. The radiation therapist often works as a member of a cancer treatment team.
