rabies immune globulin (RIG), a solution of antirabies immune globulin. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is used in conjunction with human diploid cell culture rabies vaccine for possible protection against rabies in persons suspected of exposure to rabies. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Previous administration of this preparation or known hypersensitivity to this solution, to gamma globulin, or to thimerosal prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are soreness at the site of injection, fever, and hypersensitivity reactions.
