prostacyclin (PGI2)

prostacyclin (PGI2) /pros′təsī″klin/ , a prostaglandin. It is a biologically active product of arachidonic acid metabolism in human vascular walls and a potent inhibitor of platelet aggregation. It inhibits the vasoconstrictor effect of angiotensin and stimulates renin release and has been used to treat pulmonary hypertension.
