processus vaginalis peritonei /prəses″əs/ [L, processus, process, vagina, sheath; Gk, peri, around, teinein, to stretch] , a diverticulum of the peritoneal membrane that during embryonic development extends through the inguinal canal. In males it descends into the scrotum to form the processus vaginalis testis; in females it is usually completely obliterated. Also called Nuck’s canal, Nuck’s diverticulum.
