Procaryotae /prōker′ē·ō″tē/ , (in bacteriology) a kingdom of bacteria, viruses, and blue-green algae that includes all microorganisms in which the nucleoplasm has no basic protein and is not surrounded by a nuclear membrane. The kingdom has two divisions: cyanobacteria, which includes the blue-green bacteria, and bacteria. Also called Monera. See also prokaryocyte.
