postperfusion syndrome

postperfusion syndrome /-pərfyo̅o̅″zhən/ [L, post + perfundere, to pour over] , a cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection occurring between 2 and 4 weeks after the transfusion of fresh blood containing CMV. It is characterized by prolonged fever, hepatitis, rash, atypical lymphocytosis, and occasionally jaundice. No specific treatment is available.
