polydactyly

polydactyly /-dak′tilē/ [Gk, polys + daktylos, finger] , a congenital anomaly characterized by the presence of more than the normal number of fingers or toes. The condition is usually inherited as an autosomal-dominant characteristic and can usually be corrected by surgery shortly after birth. Also called hyperdactyly, polydactylia, polydactylism.
