polychromatophilia /pol′ēkrō′matəfil″yə/ [Gk, polys + chroma + philein, to love] , an elevated reticulocyte count on a peripheral blood film stained with new methylene blue dye or an increase in the number of polychromatophilic red blood cells on a Wright-stained blood film. Reticulocytosis or polychromatophilia indicates bone marrow regeneration in hemolytic anemia or chronic blood loss. Also called polychromasia.
