phlyctenular keratoconjunctivitis

phlyctenular keratoconjunctivitis /flikten′yələr/ [Gk, phlyktaina, blister] , an inflammatory condition of the cornea, characterized by tiny ulcerating nodules. It is seen most often in children as a response to allergens found in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, gonococci, Candida albicans, or various parasites. Vitamin deficiency may be a factor. The condition responds to topical corticosteroids, but corneal scars may remain. Also called phlyctenulosis, scrofulous keratitis. See also eczematous conjunctivitis.
