Also called penicillin phenoxymethyl. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed for prophylaxis against rheumatic fever and in the treatment of ear, nose, throat, skin, and urinary tract infections caused by susceptible bacterial strains (primarily gram-positive bacteria). ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Known hypersensitivity to this drug or to any penicillin prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are anaphylaxis and urticaria.
