pelvic exenteration /eksen′tərā″shən/ , the surgical removal of all reproductive organs and their lymph nodes and en bloc removal of the rectum, distal sigmoid colon, urinary bladder, distal ureters, internal iliac vessels, entire pelvic floor with accompanying pelvic peritoneum, levator muscles, and perineum. Pelvic exenteration is the preferred treatment for recurrent or persistent carcinoma of the cervix after radiation therapy.
