osmotic transfection

osmotic transfection, a method of inserting foreign deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules into cells by putting cells into a dilute solution that causes them to rupture. The cell membranes quickly repair themselves without irreversible injury to the cells. During the rupture period the alien DNA is added to the fluid and is absorbed into the cell nuclei. The foreign DNA can be detected in the cells as a transfection marker.
