Omsk hemorrhagic fever (OHF)

Omsk hemorrhagic fever (OHF) /ômsk/ [Omsk, Russia] , an acute infection seen in the western Siberian regions of Omsk, Novosibirsk, Kurgan, and Tyumen caused by a flavovirus transmitted by the bite of an infected tick or by handling infected rodents, especially muskrats. It is characterized by fever, headache, epistaxis, GI and uterine bleeding, and other hemorrhagic manifestations. Treatment is supportive; recovery usually occurs.
