omphalosite /om″falōsīt′/ [Gk, omphalos + sitos, food] , the underdeveloped parasitic member of unequal conjoined twins united by the vessels of the umbilical cord. The omphalosite has no heart, derives its blood supply from the placenta of the autosite, and is incapable of independent existence after birth. See also allantoidoangiopagus.
