omphalocele

omphalocele /om″fəlōsēl′/ [Gk, omphalos + kele, hernia] , congenital herniation of intraabdominal viscera through a defect in the abdominal wall around the umbilicus. The defect is usually closed surgically soon after birth. Compare gastroschisis.
