neurotendinous spindle [Gk, neuron + L, tendo, tendon; AS, spinel, spindle] , a capsule containing enlarged tendon fibers, found chiefly near the junctions of tendons and muscles. One or more nerve fibers pierce the side of the capsule and lose their medullary sheaths; the axons subdivide and terminate between the tendon fibers in irregular disks or varicosities. Also called organ of Golgi.
