neuropore /no͝or″ōpôr/ [Gk, neuron + poros, pore] , the opening at each end of the neural tube during early embryonic development, leading from the central canal of the neural tube to the exterior. The closure of these apertures as the tube grows and differentiates occurs with such precision that they are used to indicate horizons XI and XII in the systematic anatomical charting of human embryonic development. Kinds include anterior neuropore, posterior neuropore. See also horizon, neural tube formation.
