nasal instillation of medication, the instillation of a medicated solution into the nostrils by an atomized spray from a squeeze bottle, a dropper, or a nasal inhaler. The patient holds one nostril closed while spraying the medication into the opposite nostril. Nasal spray is administered to the patient in a sitting position. The patient is asked to expectorate any solution that runs down the posterior nares into the throat.
