Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) disease

Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) disease, systemic disease caused by infection with organisms of the Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare complex in patients with human immunodeficiency virus infection. Manifestations include bacteremia, fever, chills, fatigue, night sweats, weight loss, abdominal pain, anemia, and elevated alkaline phosphatase. Also called MAC disease. Compare mycobacteriosis.
