Mössbauer spectrometer /mes″bou·ər, mœs″bou·ər/ [Rudolf L. Mössbauer, German physicist, 1929–2011] , an instrument that can detect small changes between an atomic nucleus and its environment, such as caused by alterations in temperature, pressure, or chemical state. The device is used in chemical and physical research with applications in medicine.
