Microsporum

Microsporum /-spôr″əm/ [Gk, mikros + sporos, seed] , a genus of dermatophytes of the family Moniliaceae. The spores are multiseptate and variable in shape and have thin or thick walls. One species is M. audouinii, which causes epidemic tinea capitis in children. Others are M. canis and M. gypseum. Formerly called Microsporon.
