metolazone /mətō″ləzōn/ , a diuretic. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed for the treatment of edema and mild to moderate high blood pressure. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Anuria or known hypersensitivity to this drug, to thiazides, or to sulfonamides prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are hypokalemia, hyperglycemia, hyperuricemia, and allergic reactions.
