methyclothiazide /məthī′klōthī″əzīd, meth′əklōthī″əzīd/ , a diuretic. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of mild to moderate hypertension and edema. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Anemia, renal or urinary disorders, or known hypersensitivity to this drug, to other thiazide medications, or to sulfonamide derivatives prohibits its use. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are hypokalemia, hyperglycemia, hyperuricemia, hypotension, and hypersensitivity reactions.
