metaraminol bitartrate /met′äram″inol/ , an adrenergic vasopressor. ▪ INDICATIONS: It is prescribed in the treatment of hypotension and shock. ▪ CONTRAINDICATIONS: Known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. It is not used with the MAO inhibitors cyclopropane or halothane anesthesia or as the sole drug for hypovolemic hypotension. ▪ ADVERSE EFFECTS: Among the more serious adverse effects are cardiac arrhythmia, tissue necrosis at the site of injection, hypertension, tremors, and nausea.
