membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN) /mem′brənō′prōlif″ərətiv′/ , a chronic form of glomerulonephritis characterized by mesangial cell proliferation, irregular thickening of glomerular capillary walls, thickening of the mesangial matrix, and low serum levels of complement. Also called mesangiocapillary glomerulonephritis.
